Adventure Day 17 & 18: Coffee, World Records, And The End of Episode 2

May 21, 2010

So yesterday was our final segment for our episode. We left Fresno early in the morning and drove out to Santa Monica. I haven’t been too LA for close to two years now, and while I still would not want to live there again it was sort of nice being there again I’m not going to lie.

So our shoot took place inside a coffee shop. I’m not going to say how cats and coffee relate but it was a really cool segment that I all urge you to check out when its finally up on air. The coffee shop itself was really pretty, it specialized in unique brewing styles you will not find at a Dunkin Doughnuts or Starbucks. Also while there we did an interview with an owner who has a cat that is a Guiness World Record Owner. Finally we went to the pier to do some small Intros and Broll shots, and with that we were done with Episode 2. I should clarify if anyone is confused. Episode 1 for our show has already been shot and is almost done. I am on the team that has started taping Episode 2 through Episode 6. So Episode 2 is now a wrap and we start getting ready for Episode 3!

With the end of our shoot I packed up our equipment and then met up with the ever wonderful Amanda. Amanda is my friend from college who recently moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. No not all my friends are named Amanda its just really funny that both of the friends I have seen so far are named Amanda. Anyways, Amanda andI went to this wonderful Bar/Resuturant and caught up on life and things. Working as hard as we have been on this show, it was extremely nice to see someone from back home (even though she now lives in LA). We were able to just hang out and catch up.

So today is the start of us getting ready for Episode 3. I left Santa Monica this morning and I am making my way to New Mexico. I stopped by a Avis Center to get a oil change, after putting over 8,000 miles on this thing i figured it was about time. The drive out so far has been pretty uneventful. I am currently staying in Goodyear Arizona. The only fun thing I am noticing is how the temperature has spiked like crazy. I went from a nice 70 to 99 degrees. I can only imagine how hot its going to be when we are shooting in New Mexico.

So thats how the past two days have been so far. I should get to New Mexico tomorrow and then we start our whole new Episode in the South!

I’m also currently watching The Mis Adventures of Flapjack

ADVENTURE!!!!

Adventure Day 16: Kitty Cats EVERYWHERE

May 19, 2010

So today’s shoot was a long one but it was really one of the most interesting ones out there so far. We did a spotlight piece on this sanctuary for domestic cats. This Sanctuary has over hundreds and hundreds of cats in its care. it is considered one of the best no kill shelters on the west coast and has a very unique style and grounds. There owner and founder was this wonderful woman who clearly knows what she is doing but also has the biggest passion for all of these animals. It was a long day, but really it was very interesting to see all of these pieces come together for our story. It really hit me as we were driving home that all the segments I have been working on are going to turn in a really great episode for a really great show.

So tomorrow we head off to LA for our final pieces for episode one. After that I start making my move down to New Mexico. Its crazy like I said last night, I have done so much in just two weeks times. It feels like so much time has gone by but at the same time its all happened in a  blink of an eye.

I realize this is a very short post, but really I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head. If this episode is any indication I think this show is going to be stellar and I can’t way to keep moving on forward to more unexplored areas of the country and the stories that are there.

Adventure Day 12 13 14 & 15! The Adventures of San Francisco

May 18, 2010

So I”m sorry that I did not update sooner the past few days have been just a whirlwind. Its crazy it has only been what four days since my last update? It feels much much longer then that. These shooting days man I tell you, so much happens in one day time seems to go so fast yet so slow and so much happens. Its been just two weeks since I have left for this show and it already seems like forever ago. Hell even last week in Seattle seems so long ago its crazy how much gets done in one day. So Anyway here is the lowdown of what went on while in the wonderful Bay Area.

First off lets talk about San Fran and driving. So San Fran is in my opinion a gorgeous city. Allot of people there are very unique and its very stylish and creative and its just a place where I can just see myself in. It just reminds me of a west coast version of Boston. I love being there but this time around there was the unique challenge of driving. I forgot we were going to be in a major city with lots of people. Our hotel was the amazing Sir Francis Drake Hotel, a truly nice and classical looking hotel. Staying there was great, I just forgot the fun challenge of driving in a major metropolitan city like that. Also the hills…..oh the hills. Going up some of those steep things when you have an equipment van filled with over one hundred pounds of equipment made for some suspenseful moments. But that being said it was still so great to see the city in so little time. Now onto adventure!

Friday: We spent the day going around different areas of the bay area getting different throw back segments. We did this for most of the morning and went to the Harbor area. After our segment shooting we went out towards Walnut Creek. We did a shoot for another animal planet show. I know crazy not doing something on cats! It was a very nice laid back style type interview and a relaxed tone. It was sort of a short day but still very productive.  Even though it was getting close to late I did head back out again, this time to see my friend Amanda. I hopped on the Muni and headed towards Church St. We met up and had a great dinner at one of her favorite sea food restaurants. Yes you heard me, if any of you know me you know how I am not the biggest fan of seafood. But this place was so good I didn’t even care. After some great Fish & Chips and an Anchor Steam beer, we went for a walk. Amanda took me to one of her favorite spots at this park. It was this beautiful scene at night where you could see downtown and the bridge. It was a nice moment of tranquility. Sitting there with Amanda being able to take a moment to look at the city it was very calming and very pretty. I may not be able to see that many people I know on this trip, so thats why seeing her was truly great.

Saturday: We started the day doing more throw back segments. The one trick to this was we had to do one for our First Episode.  Our first episode was done in Florida, so through some very creative shooting we were able to turn San Francisco into Florida. After getting our morning segments out of the way we headed back out too Walnut Creek to do a segment on this animal shelter. This shelter has a very unique program on animal adoption. We spent the rest of the day there looking at the process and interviewing the staff. Everyone there was very very nice and it was one of the nicest facilities for animal rescue I have ever seen. Before we could call it quits though we went to a family for a success story about how this program worked out for them. I think its going to be a very touching segment. By the time we were all done the sun had set and it was night time as we were driving back. In one of those movie type moments, I was on the bay bridge, and there was some traffic going on. As I was driving “Clair de Lune” came on my ipod. Having that playing while going across the bridge, I get to see the city to the right all lit up. It was a very pretty moment one I will probably remember. After that drive finally turned in for the night.

Sunday: Sunday was a big day. Were doing a feature on this cat with a very unique talent. One that has been happening for 3 years and has brought the neighborhood together in a way. We spent the good amount of the day interviewing the family, the neighbors and everyone associated with this cat. We spent the day and a good part of the night there. One part of this segment involved us being on a cat stake out for a good part of the night. Needless to say we did not get back till close to 2 am. I wish I could say more, but really this is going to be a very cool segment when its all said and done and I am very excited with how it turned out.

Monday: We did one final segment for our shoot we started yesterday. We then said goodbye to San Francisco and headed out to Palier. Getting there was a good four hour drive but it was very quick and relaxing. I am almost done with my third audiobook. I’m going to probably need a fourth one by the time we are done with this episode all together.

In just these past four days so much has happened its actually kinda hard to remember everything. But thats what’s great about this whole journey, so much to see and do and have a great time.

Ok I need to sleep I’m getting up at 6 am for our next segment.

Adventure Day 11: Off To the Bay City

May 14, 2010

So today was another travel day. I said goodbye to Redding California and made my way too San Francisco. The driving was easy compared to some of the other drives I have had to do. Only three hours this time! Its funny how that can now sound short to me.

Getting to San Fran was easy. Driving through San Fran is a completely different animal all together. For all of my Massachusetts friends you know how Cambridge can be so fun and have all of these one way streets scattered through out that makes driving a fun joy? Well now imagine that but placed right in the middle of Boston and with hills lots and lots of hills. After going up and down a few times I found my hotel and my parking garage and everything has been smooth sailing since then. The hotel here is very classy looking and apparently has been around for quite a bit. I spent some time checking out some of the blocks around here. Its very pretty but I forgot how windy it can be here as well.

I’m going to be here in San Fran until Monday, and hopefully I will get to see my friend here if I have the time.  Its crazy how I’m already in my second state for shooting.

Off to figure out what to do for food.
